Midsummer Dream House

Midsummer Dream House is open to submissions for editorial feedback. Editorial feedback is given to help develop or improve the piece submitted. You can expect to receive feedback regarding aspects such as:

• Form
• Structure
• Development
• Theme
• Pacing
• Grammar
• Punctuation
• Any other aspect of the writing.

Guidelines:

Poetry

• Submit 1-3 poems.

Flash Fiction

• Submit 1-2 pieces.
• Each piece must be between 100-1,000 words.

Short Fiction

• Submit 1 piece between 1,000-4,000 words.

Longer Fiction

• Submit 1 piece between 4,000-10,000 words.

Short Creative Nonfiction

• Submit 1 piece between 1,000-4,000 words.

Longer Creative Nonfiction

• Submit 1 piece between 4,000-10,000 words.

The amount of feedback you will receive will vary. You may receive between a short paragraph to a full page of editorial critique. 

Response time: 1-6 months.

Midsummer Dream House is an independent publisher. We do not accept submissions for editorial feedback that feature or include excessive gore, violence, or abuse.

Submissions to Issue 4 are open. All work submitted will be considered for publication in Issue 4, in digital and print.

We accept simultaneous submissions. We do not accept previously published material. This includes work posted on websites, social media, and any other online platform. We do not accept work that has been generated or created by Artificial Intelligence. You must be 18 years of age or over to submit. 

POETRY SUBMISSIONS

• Send 1-3 poems.

FICTION

• Send 1 fictional story between 1,000-10,000 words.

FLASH FICTION

• Send 1-2 works of flash fiction. 
• Each work of flash fiction can be up to 1,000 words long.

CREATIVE NONFICTION AND MEMOIRS

• Send 1 work of creative nonfiction or 1 memoir up to 10,000 words.

PLAYS OR SCRIPTS

• Send 1 play or script up to 10 pages long.

ARTWORK

• Send 1-10 photos or scans of artwork. All photos or scans must be at least 300 DPI.
• Title each file with the title of the art piece.
• In the cover letter include the medium of the work.

PHOTOGRAPHY

• Send 1-10 photos. All photos must be at least 300 DPI.
• Title each file with the title of the photo.

COMIC BOOKS OR GRAPHIC FICTIONAL WORKS

• Send 1 comic book or graphic fictional work up to 10 pages long.
• All images must be at least 300 DPI. 
• Include a short cover letter that also includes credits (if needed) and a brief synopsis.

RIGHTS: 

Midsummer Dream House acquires first North American serial rights for its digital and print publication. We do not offer payment for accepted pieces at this time.

RESPONSE TIME:

1-6 months.

• You must be 18 years of age or over to submit.

Poems may take on any form or structure to include free verse.

• If you are submitting previously published work, please note this in your submission and include where it was first published. Work that has been posted only to your social media account(s), personal website(s) or blog(s) is not considered previously published.

Rights:

• For online publication: Midsummer Dream House retains online archival rights. At this time, we do not offer payment for pieces selected for publication that are non-contest winners.
